Palm Sports CEO Fouad Darwish and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend Renzo Gracie recently discussed the remarkable rise of Jiu-Jitsu in the United Arab Emirates and its impact on society.
Gracie highlighted that Jiu-Jitsu is more than a sport—it is a life discipline that builds confidence, resilience, and respect. He emphasized how the UAE’s national identity has embraced these values, noting that “you don’t lose in Jiu-Jitsu—you either win or learn.”
Darwish explained the early challenges of introducing the sport in a region where it was largely unknown. Over time, Jiu-Jitsu evolved into a nationwide movement supported by UAE leadership. Today, Palm Sports oversees more than 2,000 specialized instructors delivering Jiu-Jitsu programs across schools, police forces, and the military.
The results are measurable. Darwish noted clear improvements in youth behavior, discipline, health, and decision-making, aligning with national goals to combat lifestyle diseases through sports and physical activity. He also highlighted the extraordinary rise in female participation, with girls now making up 56% of students in the school program.
Gracie shared how Jiu-Jitsu has strengthened cultural values and contributed to positive social change, fostering confidence and unity among young generations.
Beyond Jiu-Jitsu, Darwish emphasized how the UAE Warriors platform is helping athletes achieve international recognition, describing it as a launchpad for dreams and professional growth.
Together, their insights reflect how Jiu-Jitsu has grown from a niche martial art to a transformative force embedded in the UAE’s vision for health, character development, and sporting excellence.
